Every year I pull together a list of horror movies I’d like to watch in honor of spooky season, but as time goes on I sometimes wonder if I’ve seen certain movies. And since I’ve been watching horror movies long enough to have had some blurry childhood mix up memories where I confused the Scary Movie and Scream franchise, it’s time to create a master list of movies I have seen.
This list is not exclusive to films I enjoyed and therefore will have a positive or negative rating with each film. In trying to stick to the genre of horror I’ve tried to stick to movies either I personally would argue fall into the horror genre or movies that traditionally have been categories as horror even if I may disagree with the classification. For instance, I find nature based catastrophe films to fall into the category of horror so you may disagree that GeoStorm or Twister are horror movies. Or for another example, I wouldn’t categorize the Terminator franchise as horror but in list after list this is where they tend to fall. Some other movies due to age also tend to be less associated with horror despite that being their genre.
Rankings are either + (positive), – (negative), or +/- (neutral), with the minor addition of ++ (the super positive representing my faves).
